How to get ready for your headshot session?
Getting a professional headshot is an investment in your personal brand.
Whether you're a lawyer, architect, consultant, or EU professional in Brussels,
preparation is key to capturing your best self on camera.
Here’s everything you need to know to get camera-ready with confidence.
1. What clothes to wear for my headshot?
Keep It Professional and Polished
Your outfit should reflect the image you want to project in your industry.
Whether your goal is to appear trustworthy, dynamic, creative, or corporate, your clothing plays a key role.
- Solid Colors Work Best: You can stick with neutral or classic tones like navy, charcoal, forest green, or burgundy. These colors are flattering and help focus attention on your face. But if you can also bring some more vibrant color options if it matches your personnality.
- Avoid Busy Patterns: Stripes, checks, or loud prints can distract from your expression and don't photograph well.
- Fit and Comfort Matter: Choose well-fitted clothing that makes you feel confident and relaxed. Avoid anything too tight or too loose.
- Consider Layers: Jackets, blazers, or cardigans add dimension to your look and allow for quick styling adjustments during the session.
Bring Clothing Options
Bring at least two or three tops in different colors and styles.
This gives us the flexibility to match your look with lighting and background, ensuring the best possible outcome.
2. Grooming and Makeup Tips
Hair and Facial Hair
- Get a Fresh Haircut: Aim for a trim about a week before your session. This avoids the “just cut” look while keeping your style fresh.
- Style as Usual: Don’t experiment with new hairstyles last-minute—go with a look that feels natural and confident.
- Facial Hair: Shave or groom facial hair neatly depending on your usual appearance.
Makeup and Touch-Ups
- Keep Makeup Natural: Especially for women, less is more. A light, natural application enhances your features without overpowering your expression.
- Avoid Heavy Foundation: It’s easier to retouch minor blemishes than thick makeup. If you don’t normally wear makeup, don’t start just for the shoot.
- Pack Essentials: Bring a small touch-up kit with powder, lipstick, comb, or hair product, just in case.
Glasses Are Welcome
If you wear glasses regularly, bring them. Just make sure they’re clean and in good condition.
We’ll take care of any reflections during editing. If you have multiple pairs, feel free to bring options.
3. Well-Being and Preparation
Sleep and Hydration
-
Get a Full Night’s Sleep:
If you can. Otherwise dark circles and eye bags will be taken care of in post-processing. - Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water before your session to help your skin look fresh and radiant.
